Jose Angel Castro Obituary

Jose Angel Castro, 88, of Levelland, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home on July 2,
2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Jose was born on August 16, 1937, in San Ignacio, Chihuahua, Mexico, to Francisco and
Antonia Castro. In 1954, he moved to Levelland, Texas, from California and made it his home
for the rest of his life.

On January 22, 1955, he married the love of his life, Tomasa Rede Castro, in San Ignacio,
Chihuahua, Mexico. Together they shared 72 years of marriage and were blessed with eight
children.

Jose worked as a floor hand for Sundown Oil Company and Pool Oil Company for more than 35
years. He was also a cowboy and rancher at the Indian Cliff Ranch in Fabens, Texas, where he
trained cutting horses and raised cattle.

He enjoyed listening to the music of Vicente Fernández, Pedro Infante, and Antonio Aguilar, as
well as watching classic Mexican films. One of his greatest joys was taking his wife dancing and
enjoying traditional Mexican music together. Jose was known as a hardworking man who loved
spending time outdoors, relaxing in his lawn chair, cooking menudo, and preparing underground
pit-roasted goat (“chivo”). His family often considered him the best cook around.

Above all else, Jose deeply loved his family. He cherished his children, grandchildren, great-
grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather,
and friend who will be remembered for his strong work ethic, generous heart, and love for family
traditions.

Jose was a longtime member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Levelland.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Francisco and Antonia Castro; his daughters, Teresa
Castro and Leticia Castro; his sister, Esmera Holguin; and his brothers, Oscar Castro and
Miguel Castro.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years, Tomasa Rede Castro of Levelland; his
daughters, Norma (Atilano) Arvizo of Brighton, Colorado, Olga (Jose) Portillo of Levelland,
Manuela (Jose) Palma of Commerce City, Colorado, Antonia (Iram) Delgado of Denver,
Colorado, and Corina Cantu of Levelland; his son, Martin (Julieta) Castro of Commerce City,
Colorado; his sister, Ernestina Melendez of El Paso, Texas; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-
grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
