Lupe was born in Yoakum, Texas to Isidra and Francisco Gomez on October 2, 1941. He was a devoted husband to his late-wife Lydia Armendarez Cardenas Gomez for 46 years until her passing in 2008. They had six children who looked up to their Dad as he was a loving father and hard worker who cared for his wife and family in the most loving way.
One of the best qualities about Lupe was his great sense of humor and he loved making everyone laugh, especially his children. Despite anything he or his family went thru, he always kept his playful spirit. Lupe enjoyed playing dominoes and cards with his family. He especially loved watching his Washington Redskins when they beat the Dallas Cowboys as the rest of his family are Cowboy fans. Again, his sense of humor shining thru.
Lupe was a devout Catholic at St. Michael’s Church in Levelland, Texas, where he and Lydia were married and raised their children in the church. He was a member of the Sagrado Corazon and a Cursillista for many years.
Lupe is survived by his six children: Lupe Gomez Jr., Elizabeth Rodriguez ( Domingo Rodriguez), Terry Diaz (Pete Diaz), David Gomez (Patricia Gomez), Rebecca Resendez (Manuel Resendez) and Rosa Gomez. His 13 grandchildren, 37 great- grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by his last remaining sibling, his sister Janie Barrera.
Funeral services for Lupe will be held on Friday, November 22, 2024 at 2 p.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Levelland, Texas followed by his burial at Levelland Cemetery. Prior to the funeral mass, a rosary will be held at 11 a.m. in St. Michael's Catholic Church followed by lunch at noon in the church parish hall. The family would like to give a special thank you to Father Dylan Crawley and Deacon Sergio Vidales for officiating the funeral mass and to the Guadalupanas for providing a special lunch.
He is being carried to his final resting place by his grandsons. Pallbearers are Cristoval Gomez, Navy Sr. Chief Marcos Gomez, Emilio Vidales, Zachary Gomez, Anthony Alvarez, JJ Castellanos, Ezekiel Mendoza and Eli Resendez. Honorary pallbearers are his son-in-laws Domingo Rodriguez, Pete Diaz and Manuel Resendez.
He is preceded in death by his wife Lydia Gomez, his parents, four brothers, two sisters and one great grandson.
May eternal rest be granted unto our Lupe, Oh Lord, and let the perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.
