Frances Cantu Duarte

On May 26, 2022, our Lord and Savior reached out His hand and touched Frances Cantu Duarte, age 69 of Clovis, New Mexico. She passed away at Methodist Dallas Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

A Rosary will be conducted Thursday June 2, 2022, 6:00 p.m. at The Chapel, 1500 Thornton St., in Clovis, NM. Mass of the Resurrection will follow on Friday, June 3, 2022, 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 108 Davis St, in Clovis, NM. Colton Duarte, Landon Duarte, Jonathan Duarte, Aaron Lopez, Patrick Duarte, and Paul Quilantan will serve as pallbearers.

Frances was born to Aniseto and Modesta Cantu on August 14, 1952, in McCamey, Texas. She married the love of her life, Johnny Lucero Duarte on September 21, 1968, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Morton, Texas. She started out as a housewife and mother. Her first job after marriage was as a postal clerk in Goodland, Texas. She moved on to work at Three Way ISD as an Educational Assistant and began taking night classes at ENMU University in Portales, New Mexico, where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. She was hired at La Casita Elementary teaching 4th grade and drove to Clovis and back to Stegall every day. Eventually they moved to Clovis where she worked at the same school for 23 years until she retired in 2015 due to her health. Even after retirement, she continued to work alongside her husband with their cleaning business, until her death. She was a devout Catholic and attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Frances was an extremely loving and giving lady and would help anyone in need. Her family was the light of her life and she loved to be with them and cook up all their favorite dishes, especially around the holidays.

Frances is survived by her husband, Johnny of 53 years, Her Mother, Modesta Cantu of Muleshoe, Tx, her 3 children, Johnny Duarte Jr (JJ) and wife, Joy of Ennis, Tx, Denise Lopez, and husband, Leo of Clovis, NM, Nick Duarte, of San Antonio, Tx. Grandchildren, Landon, Katherine, Victoria, Colton, Jonathan, and Adrienne. 10 nephews and 7 nieces. 1 brother, Ernest Cantu and wife, Omega of Levelland, TX, 5 sisters, Mary Cantu Northcut of Clovis, NM, Amanda Cantu Moore of Meza, Arizona, Modesta Cantu Lewis and husband, Randy of Levelland, Tx, Mary Ann Cantu Milewski of Arlington, Tx and Estela Cantu Duarte of Muleshoe, Tx.
