Countress Ellanise Lewis Obituary
Connie's formative years in Houston, Texas, were deeply rooted in faith and community engagement. She was baptized at a tender age through Saint Anthony Missionary Baptist Church, and her spiritual commitment deepened through her dedicated service at Berea Missionary Baptist Church, where she actively participated in various organizations, from lending her voice to the choir to serving with grace on the usher board. Her innate desire to contribute extended beyond the church walls; guided by her father, Chester, she became actively involved in local Little League football and baseball programs. From a remarkably young age, Connie demonstrated her compassionate heart by volunteering at assisted living facilities, offering comfort to the elderly, and at animal shelters, caring for vulnerable creatures. These early experiences were foundational in shaping her lifelong commitment to nurturing and supporting others.
Connie; daughter, sister, parent, nana, friend and wife. She was family. Well-loved and already deeply missed.
Academically, Connie distinguished herself with exceptional diligence and intellectual prowess. She graduated from Ross Shaw Sterling High School, (1982), in the top 5% of her class, a testament to her sharp mind and dedication. Her pursuit of higher education led her to Texas Southern University, where over three and a half years, she maintained an impressive grade point average ranging from 3.3 to 3.8, consistently demonstrating her academic excellence. In 1996 she found her passion, caring for those who could not care for themselves. She always remembered that the people she cared for were people and loved learning who they were, what they did and what they loved. She had the best stories and always made those around her laugh. She loved reading and devoured books up to 5 a week. She loved history, autobiographies and fiction as well. She loved sports including boxing and football and was often seen wearing her Longhorns gear. April 20th 2016, she married Julie Marie and they moved to Levelland from Lubbock that same year. Connie and Julie Marie loved traveling through Arizona, Texas and Louisiana, vising family and friends hanging out in Galveston, New Orleans, finding new restaurants and shopping, exploring second hand and antique stores and anything else that caught their interest along the way. She loved to cook and everyone always wanted a bowel of her gumbo, blacked eye peas, greens and several other southern dishes. She loved animals’ and over the years loved a multitude of dogs, cats and even a turtle named Millie.
