Arlene Esther Brooks

Miss Arlene Esther Brooks was born on November 12, 1934 in Detroit, Michigan to Casper and Harriet Brooks. She received her Doctoral Degree in Education from Texas Tech. Miss  Brooks was an Extension Lay Volunteer assigned to St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Levelland, Texas on August 23rd, 1963 where she was principal of St. Michael’s School for 19 years. Miss Brooks was one of the original founders of St. Michael's School. She also worked at South Plains Community Action and Carver LISD for more than 30 years. Miss Brooks received the highest honor and award for a Catholic lay person from Pope Paul VI, The PRO ECCLESIA ET PONTIFICE, given on March 18th, 1973. The cross Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice is a decoration of the Holy See. It is currently conferred for distinguished service to the Catholic Church by lay people and clergy. It is the highest medal that can be awarded to lay people by the Papacy. One of her primary goals was to network for the community of Levelland. She enjoyed writing poetry and plays, loved caring for animals, and excelled at working with families. She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church for 57 years.

She was preceded in death by her Parents; Casper and Harriet Brooks, (2) Brothers, (2) Sisters and (1) God Daughter.

She is survived by (4) Nephews, (1) Niece, her Friend; Ms. Philomena Di Gennaro of Levelland, and all the family friends that she has known throughout her years.

Visitation will be Monday August 17th, from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday August 18th, 2020 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. During visitation hours we will pray together, and recite the Rosary both days at 7:00 p.m. at Head Duarte Funeral Home Chapel of Levelland.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday August 19th, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church of Levelland. Fr. Ernesto Lopez will officiate the service and music will be provided by Joe Flores. Interment will follow at the City of Levelland Cemetery of Levelland.
