Anita Muniz Obituary

Anita Muniz (née Perez), age 93, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2025, at her home in Levelland, Texas surrounded by her loving family. Born on July 24, 1932, in Apache, Oklahoma, Anita lived a life rooted in faith, compassion, and unwavering generosity.

Anita was the daughter of Tiburcio Perez and Virginia Rodriguez Perez. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Joaquin Perez; her beloved children Mary Medina Quintanilla, Abel Muniz, and Ismael “Mimo” Muniz; her grandson Sidney Quintanilla; and great-granddaughter Sofia Belgara Torres.

She is survived by her sister, Julia Bihl; her son Samuel Muniz and his wife Florence Muniz; and her son-in-law Manual Quintanilla. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren—Cathy Fisher, Aaron Quintanilla, Ryan Quintanilla, and Selena Muniz—as well as her great-grandson Salvador Belgara and great-great-granddaughter Be Anaya Belgara.

A woman of deep faith, Anita was a dedicated member of The First Assembly of God Church in Levelland. Her spiritual devotion was evident in her daily life as she read The Holy Bible with diligence and lived out its teachings through acts of kindness and service to others. Anita opened her heart and home to many—extending care not only to family but also to friends and even strangers who needed support.

One of Anita’s most enduring legacies is the love she showed to students attending South Plains College. She welcomed several young scholars into her home without asking for rent, providing them with meals, clean laundry, transportation to and from school—all so they could focus on their education. Many of these students went on to graduate from SPC and pursue further academic success thanks to the nurturing environment she created.

After retiring from South Plains College herself, Anita became a full-time seamstress. Her talent with a needle and thread earned her a reputation throughout Levelland for professional-quality sewing. Whether crafting garments or mending cherished pieces for others, she poured care into every stitch. She created beautiful blankets which are treasured gifts among family and friends.

Anita found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved reading her Bible, gardening in the sunshine, cooking for those she loved, and shopping with her close-knit group of friends affectionately known as the “Golden Girls.” She also had a special bond with her puppy Blanca—spending countless hours outdoors playing ball and enjoying nature together. Watching Spanish telenovelas was another favorite pastime that brought color and drama into her evenings.  Anita also baked pumpkin bread and pecan pies during the holidays for family and friends that were legendary

Her kindness extended far beyond words—she regularly took friends to doctor appointments and cared for them during illness. Her generosity knew no bounds; she gave freely of her time, energy, and love without ever expecting anything in return.

Anita Muniz leaves behind a legacy defined by compassion, faith, and selfless service. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her

May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
